Just wanted to know if any and all forms of bioplastics are safe for children? Can they bite, chew and swallow these bioplastics or are they toxic?
Bioplastics children safety toxicity
Hello Rokko! And thanks for your question.
I would hesitate to say “any and all forms”, because it is possible to add any kinds of additives to plastics. So, for example, it is possible to mix a toxic additive into a bioplastic, and it would still be a bioplastic but would not be safe for children.
That being said, most of the products out there ARE safe. In fact, many (but not all!!!) bioplastics are actually edible. That’s not to say that you should eat them! But I believe I’ve even seen a video of a person eating some commercially-produced corn-based packing peanuts to demonstrate this.
(He said they were very bland.)
Thank you for your answer!
